Our strength lies in the excellence of the members of our organization. Moreover, the transparency and simple structure of our organization avoids unnecessary administrative costs and this, in turn, affords us the wide-ranging independence from political or business institutions that we enjoy. Our members and partners are experts in the business who enrich and support our society with their special knowledge and experience. Our expert committees are a good example of this.

Our work in the expert committees positions us to impart important information. We arrange council on European regulations and guidelines concerning legal issues, cooperation, and education. We organize training and conduct important press relations. 

So far, SOMM is the music industry's only organization to maintain an own data base on statistics (IMIS). Even today, this data base provides a comprehensive overview of the market. This data would prove to be especially valuable for manufacturers, importers and distributors. Our statistics will become even more comprehensive as we expand our existing contacts to other organizations and  include that data of further music industry members.
