Working together for the same cause
SOMM's main goal is to promote active music making and we are in very good company. As a member of the German music counsel (Deutscher Musikrat DMR www.musikrat.de), we realize that there are very many organizations in the music business that pursue the promotion of music. Popular - or pop - music, however, is not addressed as much as we would like. For this reason, SOMM is very engaged in this music segment. And, while we are a young organization, there are a few major players who must be mentioned here.
Continuing education with „Let`s Make Music“
The "Let’s Make Music" (www.letsmakemusic.de) initiative is a cornerstone in our efforts to promote music. The SOMM is its founder and biggest sponsor. Over the past 10 years, "Let’s Make Music" has been offering a great number of activities Germany-wide to broaden the appeal of modern instruments at schools. We also offer various courses for children and for teachers for professional development, for example "Kids play Bells – the glockenspiel class," a basic boomwhackers class and much more. This program has become a permanent fixture at the „Didacta" trade fair. A comprehensive 2-year teaching packet for modern music education went into series (1st Class Rock) in the Summer of 2006 and is a major highlight.

SchoolJam - the band competition
The SOMM works closely with Musik Media - the initiators of the School Jam band competition ( www.schooljam.de )who also happen to be a SOMM member company (www.musikmedia.de). While Let's Make Music mainly addresses children who have not yet had any access to modern instruments, School Jam is directed at students who have already grouped themselves into bands. School Jam has evolved into one of the biggest competition initiatives in Germany - and soon beyond. The number of sponsors is large and the German Ministry for Family and Youth is among them.
Additional Partners
The Somm has also forged close partnerships with such educational institutes as the Jazz and Rock School, Freiburg (www.jrs.org) and the Pop Academy, Mannheim (www.popakademie.de) - both of these institutions offer training at the highest level for young music professionals and business people alike.
Exhibitions – spreading knowledge
We also support some important initiatives that are all but lost in the flashy media world. The dedication of the SOMM member company, Jellinghaus (www.jellinghaus.de), for the on-going special exhibit "Macht Musik" (www.macht-musik.de) - or "Make Music" at the DASA in Dortumund, is one such worthwhile undertaking. It is right here, that a palpable connection between a sound and its origins can be established for the first time. Over 36.000 students have been given the opportunity to experience this since the exhibition first opened. While "Make Music" was originally conceived as a wandering exhibition, a permanent exhibition is in the planning.
Strategic Public Relations Work
Our message is MAKE MUSIC! And in order to propagate this message throughout the globe, we are involved in international public relations efforts and also cooperate with several established agencies in this matter. We are working to make public on a large scale the aforementioned activities for the promotion of music.
Friendly Cooperations
We support the institutions that are pursuing the same goals as the SOMM and we are involved in friendly cooperations on certain projects with the following organizations.
Can you imagine working together with us on projects? If so, please contact our business office!
