Argument No. 1:

During the playing and hearing of music, a number of happiness hormones are released.

Argument No. 2:

People who actively make music with others avert physical and social isolation. Active players meet like-minded, and ideally also friends, with whom they can musically “communicate”. A connection to the outside world is created.

Argument No. 3:

People who make music with others experience meaningful community. Active music making in a band or orchestra promotes meeting other people and facilitates the access to fellow humans. Music makers feel like they belong in a needed and appreciated community.

Argument No. 4:

Active playing promotes and deepens a musical experience, expands the musical horizon, this way stimulating tolerance for different/unknown musical phenomena and practices.

Argument No. 5:

Music is always expression of a society – of present and past ones. As such, music is thus part of a society’s cultural heritage. Through the active performance of music, this part becomes cultivated and preserved, and can be passed on to following generations. 

Argument No. 6:

This is made clear by music bands and tradition associations. Music knows no frontiers, no nationalities. Music making as key socio-political topic establishes intercultural ties.

Argument No. 7:

Active music making keeps and stimulates the physical, mental and emotional health. Moreover, playing helps relieve stress and prevents age dementia.

Argument No. 8:

For the active playing, expertise is necessary, which can be attained through mere learning. Besides, the active music making contributes to mold social and personal competences. Altogether, these features make out the human personality.

Argument No. 9:

The learning of a musical instrument leads to interconnectedness of the motor and hearing centers in the brain. Music making is connected to the emotional movement plains, which activate the feeling centers deep inside the brain.

Argument No. 10:

Against the common belief, music does not make smart in a direct sense, but when emotions are released through the hearing and the playing of music, disposition increases, and with increasing disposition, the cognitive performance is improved.
