​The Society of Music Merchants (SOMM) is politically committed to preserving and promoting music education as an essential part of our culture and society. We support political frameworks that guarantee access to music for all age and social groups, thus strengthening cultural diversity. Our commitment focuses on the integration of music into education systems, the promotion of early music education and access to musical instruments through public and private initiatives. We see music education as an integral part of the cultural and creative industries, which make a sustainable contribution to Europe's economic and social development.

Musical education as a key to democracy and cultural diversity
On the occasion of the Fête de la Musique 2024, the Forum Musikwirtschaft is publishing a policy paper highlighting the importance of music education for society, music culture, and the economy in Germany. Music education promotes democratic values such as teamwork, communication, and respect and is essential for cultural diversity and the future of the music industry.
The position paper demonstrates how crucial investments in music education, improved school equipment, and the promotion of extracurricular activities are for preserving artistic diversity and developing future professionals. At the same time, it advocates strengthening the Fête de la Musique as a national cultural event and expanding the Culture Pass to include music education programs.
